"One wonders in this place, why anyone is left in Dublin or London, or Paris where it would be better, one would think to live in a tent or hut, with this magnificent sea and sky, and to breathe this wonderful air which is like wine in one's teeth."
- J.M. Synge (author of "The Playboy of the Western World")

Despite so many wonderful location in Ireland, county Kerry still ranks as the "Jewel in the Crown". Famous for it's Lakes of Killarney, the Ring of Kerry, the Skellig Rocks and of course Ballycarbery Castle, this south west corner of Ireland is a favourite destination of both Irish and international holiday makers

Cahirciveen town
is a small market town of some
2,000 people.
It's very traditional with a natural charm that hasn't been spoiled by large scale tourism.

Ballycarbery House is just two miles outside the town and lies in the middle of an amazing area. Situated between Ballycarbery castle ruin and two stone fortresses, ancient history is literally on the doorstep. The 15th century castle ruin was home to the great MacCarthy clan before it's destruction by the invading forces of Oliver Cromwell.

The two fortresses Caher Gael and Leacanbuaile date back to circa 500 to 900 A.D. and have been the subject of extensive archaelogical studies culminating in their entire reconstruction by the Irish Bord of Works.

Ballycarbery House is situated right beside Ballycarbery Castle.
